The comm'on lab, an open space for scientific curiosity, is located at the Encan.
It's a place where science and society can meet.
It's a place where science and society can meet.
The comm'on lab is made up of 5 spaces with distinct yet permeable functionalities.
- The exhibition area, which opens this summer, will initially host the NANOmusée, a traveling museum presenting research work through art. Visitors will discover the Sustainable and Intelligent Urban Coastline theme, a specialization of the University of La Rochelle, through sculptures, drawings, videos and sound works. Under the vaulted ceiling of the former Encan fish market, and in dialogue with one of the NANOmusée works, a focus is offered on the activities of the Pelagis marine mammal and bird observatory, a laboratory of La Rochelle University and the CNRS.
- Alongside the exhibition area, a café-boutique will enable visitors to relax and chat informally. Visitors will also be able to read a selection of the University's scientific works over a cup of coffee.
Starting in September, three other areas will be added.
- A fabrication area, comprising a medialab and a fablab, will offer a range of equipment: 3D printers, a laser cutter, a digital embroidery machine, a heat press and all the media equipment needed to carry out projects designed to disseminate knowledge.
- The collaborative space, meanwhile, will be the ideal place to organize meetings, workshops or training courses for the University and its partners.
The space will also house the offices of the venue's management, programming and mediation team.
The comm'on lab will provide an open environment where citizens, researchers and students can meet, exchange ideas and build knowledge together to better understand our coastal territory and the transitions it is undergoing.
