Exhibition - Eternel Moyen-âge

For many years now, the Middle Ages have been part of your daily life, in films, books and advertising. Since the popularization of powerful images in the 19th century through the "national novel" of Jules Michelet or Ernest Lavisse - lazy kings, Charlemagne's sword, the battle of Poitiers, Joan of Arc - it has been part of your historical culture.

Since then, historians have greatly refined and modernized our understanding of this period. But today, they are overwhelmed by the extraordinary vitality of our contemporaries' reappropriation of the Middle Ages. The medieval universe is everywhere in novels, fantasy, TV series, films, festivals and sports, and is widely shared by the huge community of enthusiasts. No other historical period has been the object of such infatuation.

This exhibition adds its contribution to the debate, questioning your perception of eight popular themes in the light of medieval documents and the findings of historical science. The gap between fantasy and reality is sometimes abysmal, sometimes subtle.
