Senior Master Thibaut invites you to discover the very closed world of French nuclear submarines, the pillars of our country's deterrence and sovereignty.
This conference will explore the technical and strategic dimensions of these exceptional vessels. How has France developed one of the world's most efficient fleets? What are the challenges involved in their design, maintenance and deployment? The speaker will share his knowledge to enlighten the audience on questions such as:
The difference between nuclear attack submarines (SNA) and nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines (SNLE).
The technological evolution of the French fleet, which is currently undergoing a complete overhaul.
The lives of volunteers in a very special profession.
Dive into the depths of the sea and become a "golden ear" to try to analyze the different sounds perceptible from onboard sonars.
The lecturer
Chief Petty Officer Thibaut joined the French Navy in 2001 as a naval mechanic. He embarked on several surface vessels before joining the submarine forces in 2006. After two years' training on nuclear attack submarines, he became a machine atomic technician. In 2014, he passed the competitive examination to become a master on nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines. In 2018, after spending some 16,000 hours diving, he returned to his native La Rochelle, where he was appointed head of CIRFA Marine.
A true enthusiast of the sea, he continues to sail regularly on his sailboat, on which he sometimes takes on board young future candidates for the French Navy.
