The Mélusine Tower, the last vestige of the Lusignan fortified castle, stands 36 metres high, offering an exceptional panoramic view of the medieval town of Vouvant and the largest forest in the Vendée (Mervent-Vouvant).
To visit the interior of the tower, go to the Vouvant Tourist Information Office and pick up the precious sesame (key hire).
You are entering a monument which, according to legend, was built by the fairy Mélusine. She built it in one night from "three dornées de pierres et d'une goulée d'Ève" (three stone-filled aprons and a gulp of water).
Dating from the late XIIᵉ-early XIIIᵉ century, this 36-meter-high keep is circular. Inside, discover 2 domed vaulted rooms and enjoy, from its summit, an incredible panoramic view of the medieval city, the Mother River and the forest!
