Guided visit - Exposition Les contours du monde

Maps were created and used as essential tools to define spaces (land or sea), explain routes around the world and navigate. At first, maps were simple diagrams (portulans), then two-dimensional drawings that became increasingly complex as scientific advances were made in surveying. The terrestrial or stellar representation is sometimes three-dimensional (globes, models). Today, they can be stored in purely digital formats.

Drawing on the collections of the Musée du Nouveau Monde and the Musée des Beaux-Arts, the exhibition shows how maps and plans illustrate a territory near or far, familiar or unfamiliar, bearing witness to the evolution of our knowledge of the world.

It is enriched by a section created by schoolchildren, who propose their own interpretations of the map.
