Exhibition - Blick Nach Berlin, regards croisés sur l'Est de l'Allemagne

Exhibition presented to mark the 35th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall by the Université du temps Libre de La Rochelle and the Bibliothèque Universitaire.
The Berlin Wall fell on November 9, 1989.
What memories do we retain? Images of jubilation at the Brandenburg Gate, Rostropovich and his cello... Some traces in the Berlin of today...
But what happened in East Germany in the months leading up to it? And how, in less than a year, were the German Democratic Republic (GDR) and the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG) able to negotiate their unification with the four Allied occupiers?
The "Peaceful Revolution and German Unity" exhibition also goes beyond this. All around us, democratic developments in Central and Eastern Europe led to the end of the Cold War. And global upheavals accompanied the collapse of the East-West blocs and the onset of globalization.
In the entrance hall of the BU, 3 independent and complementary parts:
- DISCOVERY OF TODAY'S BERLIN: On the left, on the wooden wall, the exhibition "Berlin, the free electron", on today's Berlin, "multikulti" = multicultural,
- PHOTOS FROM THE WALL: In the alcove at the back, prints of photos of the fall of the Wall and its destruction,
- HISTORY: "The Peaceful Revolution and German Unification", on the right and in the display cases, posters, objects and documents, some previously unpublished, on the periods before and after the fall of the Wall, in Germany, Europe and the world. Of particular note is the display of documents from the municipal and community archives on the 1992 Franco-German summit.
