"Réseaux connectés" is a participatory arts project created by Birgit Mollemeier in collaboration with sound artist Emmanuel Faivre and the digital development association S-LAB.
"Réseaux connectés" is a project that enhances and networks a territory's cultures and players through a monumental construction of immersive, interactive sculptures at different sites in the city.
different sites in the city.
The installation takes the form of "rhizome sculptures", built in situ from tree branches and with the participation of local residents.
These plant tunnels sinking into the ground are the emerging face of a vast interconnected "root" network, linking the three "rhizome sculptures" built in La Rochelle and Lagord.
This project, both mediation and creation, was born of questions about the links we maintain with our environment, both cultural and natural.
In his book "The Secret Life of Trees", German forestry engineer and writer Peter Wohlleben describes an underground network of communication between trees via mycorrhizae, which he calls the "internet of trees". It was this fascinating natural concept of mycorrhizae that inspired the project to create a network of interconnected "rhizome sculptures".
A sound system is integrated into the two sculptures in La Rochelle, broadcasting soundscapes created by local residents on their territory. This sound system also enables the sculptures to communicate with each other, bringing the network to life.
Locations :
The "rhizome sculptures" are installed until early November
Kennedy Park, Mireuil, next to the new archives and at the foot of the buildings
Parc Condorcet, Villeneuve-les-Salines, next to the Dunes Fertiles (the latter two are interconnected).
Square des Erondes in Lagord.
